Intro to Animation – 5-8th grades

Join us in discovering the motion techniques behind your favorite animated shows! We will explore a few traditional approaches including onion skins, compositing, stop-animation and claymation to facilitate and tell your story. Body postures and poses, indicating motion, humor and punchlines are all part of the curriculum.

Stories will be published to YouTube with a shareable link at the end of camp. Parents are welcome to join us for our studies, please sit against the wall and follow the same rules as the campers.   

Please bring a smart device - iPhone/ android/ tablets and laptops are encouraged. There will be one computer available for rendering (Mac). Make sure your student has passcodes and permissions necessary to access their device. Remove personal images from devices before class as it’s usually a very open environment.

Please make sure your student arrives at camp fully hydrated and with a full belly – animation is hard work! No eating or drinking is allowed in the studio environment.

 Clay will be provided along with additional materials for setting up scenery. Students should wear clothes they can work in – animation is also messy work at times. 

Drop-off, class start times and pick-up are prompt. Animation is a precision practice. Expect late fees for late pick-ups. No student will be released to adults (18+) not on the signup sheet, IDs will be verified.

Two scholarships are available for demonstrable need, please email Katie for more information. All payments must be made at the time of registration. Cancellation is available at 50% until two days before camp. Credit Card, Venmo, PayPal, cash and check are all accepted.
